And should, for some unfathomable reason, Egan choose Chuck as captain, Fawn had no doubt that a double-dip of Cherry Pie would convince him to pass on the honor and suggest bestowing it on her instead.
This would peeve Charly to no end.
More importantly, it would shock Seamus into realizing she wasnât a bimbo after all.
Fawn loved the thought that becoming debate team captain would buoy his hopes about her chances for getting into Yale. She couldnât wait to say no to all the acceptances. That would teach Seamus a lesson for blowing her right to try for it on her own.
Until then, she'd have to play the good girl until her college acceptances rolled in. She had no doubt they would, and in droves. The package Miranda had created for Fawn, sent to the top ten universities touted on US News & World Report, had all the bells and whistles. Besides her sky-high SAT score, Miranda had doctored some of Fawn's previous grades.
Sheâd even faked Fawnâs participation in some supposedly international non-profit club called Best Face Forward. It was supposed to be like 4-H, but instead of pretending to be farmers, the members were supposed to do good deeds for the needy.
As if we're some sort of bleeding-heart losers, Fawn scoffed.
The catch was, there really wasnât such a club.
Fawn realized this when Miranda insisted she wear a tee shirt with the organization's logo and then marched Fawn out onto a nearby street corner to take a picture of her handing sandwiches to a couple of homeless guys.
But just as Miranda shot the picture, one of the men pinched Fawnâs ass. Fawn slapped his face so hard that the dirty old codger lost a tooth.
When he howled for the cops, Miranda shut him up with a fifty-dollar bill.
âThatâs going on Seamusâ bill,â Miranda warned Fawn.
âOh, yeah? Then Iâll tell him about your so-called non-profit,â the girl retorted.
âAnd Iâll tell him about your whore-tart website,â Miranda shot back.
Noting Fawnâs blush, Miranda added: âAnd by the way, that lecher bait goes dark the moment you get home. Should any of the college recruiters find out about it, all of your parentsâ money for this little endeavor goes up in smoke!â
âYeah, okay, sure,â Fawn pouted. Like hell, I will!
The money was too good.
And besides, the more it made for her, the quicker she could leave Seamus and Gretchen in her rearview mirror.
First things first: make Seamus regret heâd ever doubted her.
So yes, tonight was important. She just had to make team captain.
Fawn watched as her parents made their entrance. Sheâd reserved seats for them next to Audrey Thorpe just because she knew they despised each other.
Served them all right.
